I'm only 16, so don't expect perfection! This is a movement of contrast, with the fairly simplistic opening theme in 3/4 time contrasted with two sections inspired by the plainchant origin of musical Requiem masses. These sections are a cappella, and feature a number of time signature changes and diminished chords in the harmonies. The closing cadence is due to the fact that the following movement is the DIes Irae, a movement dealing with the day of judgement, and the cadence was supposed to create an uneasy atmosphere ahead of it.
